The Iowa wine business has grown from 13 wineries and just two vineyards a decade ago to more than 85 state-licensed wineries and more than 413 vineyards covering more than 1,200 acres in 2010.
From GlobeGazette.com: "The vineyard and winery rests on the farmland of Gary and Barb Ludwig, and is a joint venture with their daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Scott Heiser. Barb credits Scott’s entrepreneurial spirit with the start of the winery in 2002."
Iowa’s wines are making rapid progress in quality and notoriety. Essentially non-existent in 1990, the industry has grown to 85 licensed wineries and more than 400 vineyards with some 1,200 acres.
